Video: listen to Ford's new GT Le Mans racer in action
Ford's out to win its Le Mans class with this shouty V6 beast. Think it will?
“This car’s function is to win at Le Mans”.
That's the punchy opening statement to a short video that gives a little bit of an insight into the development of the car Ford is taking to La Sarthe in 2016. And which it hopes will stick it to Ferrari in a similarly provocative manner to its GT40 grandpa, thus securing GT class victory.
Why only a little bit of insight? Well, too much detail might just give away some trade secrets to the competitors Ford so badly wants to beat.
There’s still room for a peek at the GT's aero-biased styling (being beautiful is just a by-product, says Ford), though, which looks even more bewitching as the car moves. The gaps in its rear haunches are just a little bit absurd from some angles.
We also get some tantalising soundbites of the wail that will be bouncing off the trees and Armco of the Mulsanne straight, with the car moving on track and its turbo V6 engine unsheathed and running freely on a dyno. What do you reckon to the noise, TG.commers?
It’s been nearly a year since we first caught glimpse of the new Ford GT and its endurance racing sibling, yet we’re no less excited to see or hear, well, anything about them.
It’s everything that’s great about Ford Motor Company in one car, if the video is to be believed. There are also promises that some of the GT's tech will trickle down to the stuff those of us with more modest amounts of money actually buy.
A Fiesta RS with a mid-mounted turbo V6 and madcap aero? We fear it might be a bit too much to ask…
