Video: how to own the first corner like a boss

We've seen some pretty audacious overtaking moves in our time, but this could top them all.

It comes courtesy of the always-entertaining World Rallycross Championship and a rather ballsy banzai move from Swedish driver, Kevin Eriksson.

Starting on the second row of the final race of the German round, the 20-year-old driver fired his Fiesta off the line and towards turn one. With everyone else taking the inside line, old Kev took a different approach.

Breaking many rules from the Beginner's Guide To Racing, he took the outside line and bunged his four-wheel-drive hyper hatch into a monster drift. See, in Rallycross, courage and a shed load of horsepower can get you places. Well, in Kevin's case, first place to be exact.

With his foot buried to the bulkhead his angle of attack mid-corner was basically backwards, before the Fiesta dug its claws into the mud and fired him out of the corner in front of everyone else. We're just annoyed he didn't give his opponents a wave out of the side window on the way through for double Boss Points.

From there, Kevin managed to stay out in front for the rest of the race, securing him his first world RX victory.
