This Triumph bike is gunning for a world record

Triumph wants to topple 376mph land speed record for two-wheelers

Published: 19 Sep 2016

It doesn’t look much like it, but this thing here is technically a motorcycle – one Triumph, its maker, hopes is capable of breaking the standing 376mph world land speed record for two-wheelers.

In August the Infor Rocket Streamliner became the world’s fastest Triumph when rider Guy Martin hit 274.2mph on a practice run at the Bonneville Salt Flats. But the team has somewhat loftier ambitions. The current world record is 376.363mph, set six years ago by Rocky Robinson in his Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner – and it’s this record that Triumph and Martin so desperately want to beat.

The Rocket Streamliner makes 1000bhp from its twin-engines, runs on methanol and is some 25ft long. Attempts to break the record have so far been unsuccessful, with Martin having a bit of an off on his latest run after losing traction on a damp patch of salt. Martin was uninjured, but the bike will have to be inspected before any more runs take place.
