This Toyota Supra will race the Nurburgring 24hrs
Slicks 'n' wings Supra will take on the gruelling Nurburgring 24hrs alongside a Lexus LC
Toyota is entering two cars in this month’s Nurburgring 24hrs, and this is one of them - a remarkably standard-looking Supra.
Details are relatively scant, but we know the Supra will compete in the ‘SP8T’ class, which permits turbocharged engines up to 4.0-litres capacity. We can, therefore, assume it has a version of the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six as used in the production car.
It looks practically identical to the Supra GT4 Concept Toyota showed us March - meaning besides the front splitter, spoiler and wheels, it looks more or less identical to the car you can go buy.
No doubt the interior has been stripped and simplified, a roll-cage fitted and the suspension, gearbox, brakes and so-on all given a good going-over.
The Supra will wear number 90 in the race, which is set for the weekend of June 22nd. Toyota will also enter a LexusLC, competing in the ‘SP-Pro’ class wearing number 56.
Last year, Toyota entered only the LC - it finished the race, but only because it spent four hours in the pits being mended. The company says it’s using last year’s “disappointment” as a “springboard” for 2019’s race, and its goal is to run both cars for the full 24 hours.
Before that, though, Toyota has another task on its hands - winning this weekend’s Le Mans 24hrs.
