This Subaru will set an Isle of Man TT record
Probably. Subaru builds special ‘time attack’ WRX STI to break its own World Record…
In 2014 Manx rallyist Mark Higgins lapped the Isle of Man TT course in 19:15:888, with an average speed of 117.51mph. In doing so, he set the record for the fastest four-wheeled lap of the 37.75-mile circuit – a little over two minutes shy of the bike record John McGuinness would go on to set a year later.
And now he’s back. Higgins’s car of choice in 2014 was a near-production spec’ Subaru WRX STI, but the ante has been upped quite considerably for 2016. Subaru’s partnered up with Prodrive to build a time attack special, tailored specifically to the unique demands of the TT course.
Beyond the fact it looks quite serious, we know nothing about the car itself, but Subaru's promise that it's been "purpose built" for the TT course means moments that require spectacular, wheel-juggling saves like Higgins was forced to make in '11 (click through the carousel for the vid) should be in short supply.
Higgins will attempt the record on June 10. Watch this space...
