Series Elite is a one-make race series for the over 50s
12-race series is for "high net worth" drivers only, running Jaguar's Project 8
Are you a) middle-aged, b) exceptionally wealthy and c) really, really bored? Well then step right this way, in the general direction of ‘Series Elite’ – a new “one make racing series exclusively for the mature driver”. Yes, really.
The new discipline, which is exclusively for “high net worth individuals, with a minimum age of 50 years”, will begin next May with a 12-race season at circuits in the UK and Europe. The cars? 20 lightly modified (the website says they’re rear-, rather than all-wheel drive…but this could just as easily be a mistake) Jaguar XE SV Project 8s, which we’re promised can be turned back into road-cars once drivers have had their fill. 20 cars is 15 per cent of the P8’s entire production run – reckon Jag’s having trouble shifting its 600-odd bhp, super-saloons?
The cars will be “stored and prepared at a centralised team facility”, and drivers “provided with all the relevant training, testing and race experience needed to compete in the new series”. And organisers hope these drivers, which it’s planning to entice with access to “unique luxury experiences” beyond racing (like ice driving, tickets to the Formula E and so-on), will be a mix of former and first-time racers.
Cost of entry? Probably lots. This got us thinking: what other race series would you like to see next? Here's a few suggestions. A one-make race series in Mini Ones for Foxtons estate agents. A race series of Ford Fiestas run by pensioners only called Barry, and one for Vauxhall Corsas for 17-year-olds born on a Tuesday.
