Sebastien Loeb news - Frontal Loeb - 2009

Published: 26 Oct 2009

Time to dust off the Tricolore and hang some onions out in celebration - Sebastien Loeb has done it again. Yup, he's gone and broken his own record and won the WRC for a sixth time. And he did it on British soil over the weekend.

But it wasn't a straightforward win. Going into Rally GB, Loeb was one point behind Mikko Hirvonen. So he had to drive his nuts off this weekend, and he did. Though he was helped slightly by Hirvonen's misfortune - Mikko's bonnet popped up in the middle of the stage, forcing him to stop and tear it off - and the fact that the Finn just sort of forgot to drive fast, especially in the early stages.

It was the finale of an eventful season for Loeb, who almost killed himself with a manic barrel roll on the Acropolis rally back in June. But the genius and generally unflustered Frenchman simply dusted himself down, uttered merde or something, and carried on driving like a God.

Of course, we would like to take some credit for the victory. In the current issue of Top Gear magazine, our man Piers Ward meets Mr Loeb and has a drive of his car - imparting some, erm, valuable nuggets of wisdom as part of the deal. We suggest you buy it now and read it for yourself...
