Seb Loeb’s new Pikes Peak racer

Published: 15 Apr 2013

This is the car in which WRC dominator Sebastien Loeb will recreate a tarmacked version of Climb Dance later this summer. As you can see, it's a Peugeot 208... in Sir Killalot spec.

There's a park bench-sized front splitter, the rear wing from the Le Mans 24 Hours-winning 908 and the entire scaffolding department of Travis Perkins. No information on what's powering the 208 T16, but if that gaping mouth and snorkel is anything to go by, it should be pretty impressive.

As it's entered into Pikes Peak's lariest category - the headlining ‘Unlimited' class - there wasn't a very thick rulebook for Peugeot to follow. Literally anything goes as long as it passes a basic safety inspection. Which means the cockpit merely consists of a seat, some pedals, a steering wheel and a lot of protective metal.

But the most successful WRC driver in history has some pressure on his shoulders. Peugeot claimed back-to-back victories in 1988 and 1989, in the hands of Ari Vatanen and Robby Unser with the equally big-winged 405 T16. And it's hoping for a repeat.

Unfortunately the black carbon exterior isn't the finished article, as Total, Red Bull and Michelin are still deciding where to put their stickers. But we're told that the final livery and performance figures will be released soon...

Until then, check out the pictures of the car here, and watch it come face-to-face with its grandfather below.
