This new Lego Technic set is our first look at the 2022 McLaren F1 car

McLaren unveils its 2022 contender in brick form before we see the real thing…

Published: 08 Feb 2022

McLaren is set to unveil its 2022 Formula 1 car on Friday, but we’ve already had a sneak peek at the new look thanks to this Lego Technic set. Looks rather smart, although it’s worth noting that the livery was inspired by 2021’s effort rather than the one we’ll see later this week.

The Technic set itself is very cool, as you'd expect. Lego’s designers worked with their counterparts at McLaren to get this model on sale before the start of the 2022 season, with all of the teeny Technic pieces reflecting the rule changes for this year’s new cars.

The completed model features a V6 engine with moving pistons, proper steering, working suspension and an actual differential. It’s 13cm tall, 65cm long and 27cm wide, and comes with real-life sponsor stickers to plaster over the car.

The latest in a line of McLaren/Lego collaborations, the F1 car will be available from 1 March and will set you back £159.99 in the UK.
