Meet the 2013 Lambo Super Trofeo racer
The future is aerodynamics. Plain and simple. Top Gear envisages a future world in which you will be able to buy aero for your face, helping streamline your walk into the office. Think of the tenths of seconds you'll save!
We say this because Lamborghini has just announced the very brand new and very yellow Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo racer. And while it sits on the same chassis as its predecessor, there are a few aero changes that will - says Lambo - make significant benefits for downforce.
Specifically, more downforce. The ‘surface geometries' have been re-profiled, and there are a few adjustable aero devices including that monster, ten-position rear wing, that help this new 2013 model achieve a 120 per cent improvement in aero efficiency over its predecessor.
Lamborghini has also remodelled the brake ducts, thereby improving thermal performance by 50 per cent. Overall, there's 128kg extra downforce in ‘low' setting, and an extra 160kg in high downforce trim. That's the weight of a medium sized African Lion sitting on your Lamborghini.
You'll also notice the 2013 Super Trofeo racer gets the new Gallardo face, with all its triangley charms, while underneath there's still that rather lovely 5.2-litre V10 with 570 horsepowers.
The 2013 Super Trofeo season will kick off with a two day test in Vallelunga, Italy, between the 19 and 20 March next year, and there are plans to expand the race series into the United States of America. Watch this space...
