Lewis Hamilton news - Are you quicker than Lewis? - 2009

Published: 29 Apr 2009

If you fancy beating Lewis Hamilton, but haven’t yet managed to secure yourself a drive with, er, Brawn, Toyota or Red Bull, here’s your chance.
McLaren sponsor Mobil 1 has created a fancy online competition giving you the chance to go, er, mouse-to-mouse with the F1 world champ in a series of tests to assess ‘technical knowledge, memory, reaction time and driving skill’.

Have a shot at beating Lewis.

OK, it’s a bit of an arse to register, and full of shameless plugs for motor oil, but the idea is a neat one: Lewis has laid down a score of 10, 147 points (which, incidentally, is exactly the same as TG’s prediction for the number of points Mr Button will secure in this year’s Drivers Championship) and it’s up to you to beat him.

And the winner – the contestant atop the leaderboard at midnight on June 5 – gets… a pot of dirty motor oil. Actually, it’s “an exclusive trophy containing Mobil 1 oil from the very Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-23 car that helped Lewis Hamilton secure fifth place at the Brazilian GP and win the 2008 World Championship” – which is a pretty neat prize, though we’d have preferred Heikki’s race seat for 2010.

Anyhow, if you fancy telling your mates that you’re quicker/more knowledgeable/generally betterer than Lewis, head on over to Mobil’s site. Just watch out for that KERS manoeuvre up the inside off the start line…
