Jamie Chadwick will return to Indy NXT in 2024
British racer confirms second season with Andretti Autosport in IndyCar feeder series
Jamie Chadwick will get a second bite at the cherry that is Indy NXT in 2024, teaming up again with the rebranded Andretti Global in a series that could eventually open doors in IndyCar.
The British driver told TopGear.com back in August she was on a two-year programme, but confirmation of the second season from the team underlines her determination to break into top-level single-seater racing in the US.
Initially the 25-year-old struggled in the opening races of the 2023 campaign, but the second half of the season brought a string of top 10 finishes, including sixth in Portland.
“I’m really looking forward to being back with Andretti to compete in my second INDY NXT season,” said Chadwick. “My first year with the team taught me so much and we were able to make a lot of progress with every race.
“I know that taking this experience and confidence into 2024 is going to be massively valuable for us, and I truly feel like part of the family here. I can’t wait to hit the ground running this winter and see what we can do for next season.”
Meanwhile CEO and chairman Michael Andretti - whose bid to enter F1 has recently been approved by the FIA, but faces strong opposition within F1 itself - said: “It’s a pleasure to have Jamie return to our INDY NXT team for 2024. Developing talent has always been a priority for Andretti, and Jamie’s motorsports journey is a perfect example of what we hope to achieve with our development drivers.
“Jamie represents what it means to break down barriers and continues to impress everyone in our organisation. The growth that we saw in Jamie’s rookie season was strong and we’re confident that coming back to INDY NXT is the right choice as she continues to advance her open-wheel career.”
Driving car #28, Chadwick will race alongside teammates James Roe, Louis Foster and Bryce Aron next season.
The three-time W-Series champ was recently linked to F1 via the rejected Rodin Cars team, the founder of which said it would’ve ‘guaranteed’ a female driver and would’ve had “no hesitation” in hiring Chadwick had she acquired an F1 super-licence.
