The GT4.R racecar is a £190k Chevrolet Camaro

Lots of money buys lots of aggression: meet the GT4-spec Chevy Camaro

Published: 25 Sep 2017

This is the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R. It is a racing version of the Camaro, and the latest in a brilliantly long line of GT4-spec racers based on top-end sports cars and supercars. A line that involves the Audi R8, McLaren 570S and Ford Mustang.

And it looks a bit mad. Its aggression is probably quite a decent thing when it comes to the cut-and-thrust of a GT4 race: who wouldn’t be intimated at the sight of that scowling front end filling their mirrors? Good for psyching out your opponents, we reckon.

Being a racecar, there are dive planes and wings aplenty. And you can expect a good chunk of the road-going Camaro’s 1.7 tonnes to have been scalloped out and binned, too.

Its 6.2-litre V8 should still be in there, though. It powers the Camaro’s rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission and a limited-slip differential. Specs haven’t been announced – and are likely subject to the rules of the championship you’re taking your GT4.R into – but buy an LT1 crate V8 from Chevy and you’ll get 460bhp and 465lb ft for your $11,385.

Which is significantly less than the cost of an LT1 with a racecar wrapped around it. Chevy has priced the GT4.R at $259,000. Prod that through a conversion calculator today and it churns out at £190,000, or a whole Civic Type R more than a McLaren 570S GT4. Worth it for the additional aggression?
