Goodwood hill climb comes to GT6

You are not a former Formula One driver named Nick Heidfeld*, and you haven't got a McLaren Formula One car at your disposal, which is why you aren't the current overall hill climb record holder at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

But you'll soon be able to challenge for supremacy, because lots of digital boffins have painstakingly recreated Lord March's driveway - the actual Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb - for upcoming racing simulator Gran Turismo 6. This is Good News.

We're quite fond of Goodwood, because it's a very Top Gear kind of garden party; many cars, many horsepowers, many tyres being destroyed and a general feeling of goodwill. Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi is also in awe of the place. "I have always been a huge admirer of the Festival of Speed and what Lord March has achieved," he tells us.

You'll be able to pilot the huge range of cars available in Gran Turismo 6 up the Goodwood Hill, which has been rendered in incredible detail, by the looks of the video and these screenshots. "I love the incredible range of cars on display - from the priceless, rare and exotic - to the latest family hatchback and full on racing cars," Kazunori says.

Seems Lord March is quite taken with it too, noting how he feels "proud and honoured that the Festival of Speed has been chosen to showcase GT6". He really wants to run the hill climb on GT6 too, we're told, though he's always got the option of, y'know, just popping out onto his own driveway and do it for real.

Gran Turismo 6 will be released later this year, so anyone who fancies their chances against Nick Heidfeld's record-setting 1999 run up the hill in a McLaren F1 car - which took him just 41.6s - won't have to wait long...
