This glorious Ferrari 550 GT is heading up for auction

Come on, you know you want this Red Bull-liveried, V12-engined GT

Published: 13 May 2021

Ask each member of the TG team to name their favourite GT racer of the current century and a fair few will likely settle on the wonderful Ferrari 550 GT of the early 2000s.

The 550 was the last V12-engined Ferrari to secure an outright win at a 24-hour race when it took victory at Spa in 2004. Last year, that very car – one of ten Prodrive-built examples – sold at auction for a staggering £3.28m. Seems we’re not the only fans, then…

The Red Bull-liveried 550 you see above may not go for quite that much when it heads across the block at the RM Sotheby’s Milan sale next month, but we cannot explain just how much we want it.

This particular 550 was one of two cars built by Italtecnica for Team Rafanelli and the 2001 FIA GT Championship. It then passed to JAS Motorsport for the 2002 season, where it was decked out in the brilliant Red Bull colours that have been re-applied in recent years.

In 2003 and 2004 the car was campaigned in the Italian GT Championship by JMB Racing, where it picked up a number of race wins and was actually driven by one Toto Wolff among others.

So, how much do we reckon it’ll go for folks, and what are you selling in order to fund your purchase?
