Ford vs Ferrari is back on: Ford confirms 2027 Le Mans 24hrs entry

For the first time in 60 years, Ford is aiming for outright honours

Published: 31 Jan 2025

It’s official: Ford has announced that it plans on campaigning in the World Endurance Championship’s very top tier in 2027 with one goal, and one goal only.

To win outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That’s right, Ford vs Ferrari is back on.

Well, yes, but it’ll also be Ford vs Ferrari... vs Aston Martin vs Cadillac vs Alpine vs BMW vs Peugeot vs Porsche vs Toyota, at least going on 2025’s WEC competitor list. Literally every major manufacturer is lining up an entry. This could be the battle royale to end all battle royales, or an enormous pile-up into the first corner.

Ford Performance will run a full factory team in the hope of recapturing its quite famous 1-2-3 victory back in 1966, and the three consecutive victories after that. It’s super early in Ford’s planning, so they’ve yet to announce the chassis, or the team, or the drivers. Or basically anything other than reminding us it won from 1966 to 1969.

But that’s enough to go on for the time being. Here’s Big Boss Bill Ford: “When we race, we race to win. And there is no track or race that means more to our history than Le Mans.

“It is where we took on Ferrari and won in the 1960s. It is where we returned 50 years later and shocked the world and beat Ferrari again. I am thrilled that we’re going back to Le Mans and competing at the highest level of endurance racing.

“We are ready to once again challenge the world, and ‘go like hell!’”

Boom. Here’s Richard Mille, president of the FIA’s endurance racing commission: “Endurance racing’s golden age is right here, right now.”
