Check out BMW’s M Hybrid V8 racecar in all its glory
BMW unveils its full LMDh racer… and subtle it ain’t
BMW has finally unveiled its M Hybrid V8 in full race livery… and it certainly isn’t subtle.
Up to now we’d only seen its new LMDh racer wearing camouflage livery during testing, but at an event in Los Angeles last night the team took the wraps off its V8 prototype, which is set to compete in the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Championship.
Most prominent of the new livery is undoubtedly the giant ‘M’ logo dominating the fin, along with the signature BMW M blue, red and white colour scheme. Then there’s the grille, or front kidneys which are now laser-lit and sure to frighten the bejesus out of the competition. At least, we presume that’s the plan.
It’s not all style and no substance, mind: much of the black you see remains its native carbon fibre finish, which reportedly allows for a weight saving of 25 to 30 percent compared to a conventional livery. Small margins matter.
Last night’s event also saw BMW announce its drivers for the upcoming season, namely Connor De Phillippi and Nick Yelloly in one car, and Philipp Eng and Augusto Farfus in the second, ahead of its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January.
Like it or loathe it, folks?
