BMW's M235i racer sounds good
BMW has revealed the first footage of its upcoming £50k racing-car-that-hints-at-a-BMW-M2 for your viewing pleasure. And despite the godawful soundtrack and odd splatters of patterned camo, the car itself actually sounds and looks mighty good.
Fruity, even. It's the track-only version of the new BMW 2-Series Coupe - dubbed M235i Racing - aimed at motorsport enthusiasts with more limited means (it's an entry-level car), and replaces the old Z4 racer.
The standard 2-Series Coupe's 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-sixer has been pumped up to 333bhp, while there's a proper mechanical limited slip diff, wider tracks, lowered sports suspension, BMW M Performance front and rear spoilers, fat arches, carbon wing mirrors and diffusers, and an FIA-approved safety cage and fuel tank.
And according to BMW's Motorsport director Jens Marquardt, knocking this M235i Racing out was easy. "We did not have to make many modifications," he says. Which means a road-going M2 should be even easier.
Have a watch of the video above. Anyone else noticing that, while the car itself looks and sounds great, it's also a little...unstable?
