This awesome hauler and drag car combo just sold for $50,000
You've just missed out on this ultra-cool Plymouth Barracuda and Dodge C500 combo
Starting your own motorsport team doesn’t just mean buying the race car. How are you planning to get the car to the track, for one?
Well, American auction house Barrett-Jackson has the answer, or rather it had the answer, because this ridiculously cool Dodge C500 and Plymouth Barracuda hauler/drag car combo just sold in the May Online auction for $50,000.
What a bargain. This thing is peak ‘Murica. The car in question is a ’66 Barracuda known as ‘Leggin It’. It was set up as a drag car in 1968 and comes complete with a 6.3-litre big-block V8, a three-speed automatic gearbox and a gasser front suspension setup.
It still features the brilliant 1960s decals and sponsorship stickers too, as well as plenty of patina for that well-used, much-enjoyed look. Apparently, the Barracuda was raced extensively in California for most of its life, and it still runs a very respectable quarter-mile time today (although it’s better geared for eighth-mile tracks).
Its white, red and blue starry livery also perfectly matches the accompanying 1965 Dodge C500 Hauler. The Dodge also comes with a V8 – although this one only measures 5.2-litres and is mated to a four-speed manual gearbox.
As well as that fantastic matching paint job, the hauler also has a sleeping berth behind the cab and plenty of space for spare parts, so it really is the perfect starter package for anyone wanting to get into drag racing.
Whoever the new owner is, Top Gear salutes you…
