Audi's Le Mans 2015 stop-motion video is mesmerising and lovely

If you like cars, you'll love Le Mans. And this oddly arresting video evidences why

If you know your cars – and given you’re right here, we assume you do – then you’ll be very familiar with Le Mans, the world’s most famous 24-hour race.

You might also know that Porsche won it this year, ending an Audi winning streak that was beginning to look unstoppable.

Many who attend Le Mans, though, do so without too much concern for the result, nor how it affects the World Endurance Championship standings. They do so because it’s among the most evocative races in the world to watch.

And Audi, rather than sit grumpily in the corner of its pit garage cursing Porsche’s victory, has celebrated all that is Le Mans via this stop-motion video of the 2015 race.

It comprises 1158 photographs, jammed together into a motion picture. It’s a bit weird, and certainly a little hypnotic. But it’s also quite excellent. And yes, Audi has kept in the bit where Porsche wins. Good sports.
