A Toyota Hilux has won the Dakar Rally yet again

Yazeed Al Rajhi and Timo Gottschalk pip Henk Lategan and Brett Cummings for a Hilux one-two

Published: 20 Jan 2025

You already know how strong the Toyota Hilux is, though if you needed any more proof, the hard-as-nails pickup has just gone and won the Dakar Rally. Again.

Saudi driver Yazeed Al Rajhi and his co-driver Timo Gottschalk took victory in the 2025 race in their privateer Overdrive Racing Hilux, with a final overall time of 52 hours, 52 minutes and 15 seconds. The pair were just three minutes and 57 seconds ahead of the factory Toyota Gazoo Racing team of Henk Lategan and Brett Cummings. So yes, it was a Hilux one-two.

You may remember a Hilux also won the 2023 Dakar Rally with Nasser Al-Attiyah at the wheel and Mathieu Baumel co-driving. Oh, and the same pair also won in a Hilux in both 2022 and 2019. Not bad.

In 2025, the final place on the podium was secured by Mattias Ekstrom and his co-driver Emil Bergkvist in the M-Sport-run, Coyote V8-engined Ford Raptor T1+. The aforementioned Al-Attiyah and co-driver Edouard Boulanger finished fourth in another debutant – the Dacia Sandrider.
