This tuned BMW 1-Series has more torque than a Ferrari F12tdf
Meet the baby Beemer with enough twist to warp continents
The pretty ordinary-looking BMW 1-Series pictured above has 590lb ft of torque. That’s 70lb ft more than a Ferrari F12tdf, and 75lb ft more than a McLaren 675LT. Pretty ordinary, it most definitely is not.
The 150d, as it's rather humbly known, is the work of BMW tuner AC Schnitzer. The German power-merchantts took whatever engine was originally fitted to this 1-Series and threw it away, and then plumbed in a lightly massaged version BMW’s astonishing triple turbo 3.0-litre diesel six found in the stonking M550d. Which, as you'll recall, is a rather bigger, heavier car. AC Schnitzer also fitted some massive alloys and a few spoilers and skirts. Because tuned.
The result is something with as much twisty force as a W12 Bentley Flying Spur. Or a Rolls Royce Wraith. In a 1-Series.
Here are some other numbers: 395bhp, 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and 50 to 112mph in 7.9 seconds. No word on top speed, but if they've removed the restrictor, expect it to go way past 155mph. That’s enough.
On display at the Essen Motor Show, the 150d remains a concept for now. Do the decent thing, Schnitzer. Make it real. Less talk, more torque.
