This restomod Dodge POWER WAGON is ridiculously cool
Under the bonnet is a 3.9-litre Cummins turbodiesel with 600lb ft of torque
So, you thought that V8-engined Icon Ford Ranger from the other day was a cool example of a restomod work truck? Think again. This is Legacy Classic Trucks’ take on the genre – a completely overhauled 1949 Dodge Power Wagon. That's right, POWER WAGON. Buckle up.
“The classic Power Wagons are just amazing trucks, and they are absolute smile magnets when other drivers see them out on the open road,” says company founder and man-we’d-like-to-meet Winslow Bent.
“This is the truck that helped build all the bridges, dams and roads out West that everyone road trips across during the summertime season.”
The Wyoming-based company has actually built 108 examples of these awesome things already, with each one starting at the slightly scary base price of $350,000.
You get a hell of a lot for the money, though. This particular four-door Power Wagon is fitted with a 3.9-litre Cummins turbodiesel engine that’s good for 350bhp and 600lb ft of torque, but customers can also spec a 6.2-litre Chevrolet LS3 V8 with 430bhp – or the same engine with a supercharger and a mighty 620bhp.
The original Dodge trucks are completely stripped down and modernised underneath, with new suspension, axles, driveshafts, transfer cases, locking diffs and either four-speed automatic or five-speed manual gearboxes. There’s plenty more too – but we’re slightly distracted by those monster 40” Toyo tyres. This thing should go anywhere on pretty much any terrain.
There’s a Warn winch up front too, and the interior looks rather lovely with bespoke leather seats and that wooden steering wheel. Hidden in there is a Bluetooth stereo, air conditioning and USB charging ports too.
Apparently, each Legacy - wait for it - POWER WAGON takes over 2,000 hours to build and weighs almost 3.5 tonnes. Probably not one for our little villages in the UK then. Sad times.
