Polestar has given the Volvo V60 and S60 more carbon fibre

Volvo’s newly-formed performance sub-brand updates S60 and V60. More downforce

Published: 29 Aug 2017

Back in June, Volvo revealed its plans to separate the Polestar name from Volvo itself and use it as a stand-alone sports car manufacturer, much in the same way to what Fiat have done with Abarth.

Although we were promised “world beating electrified high performance cars” arriving in the coming years, for now we’ll have to make do with an aerodynamic exterior package developed jointly between Polestar and their motorsport partner Cyan Racing.

The package draws on data gleaned from Cyan’s competitive WTCC programme and also their Nürburgring testing, where a Polestar S60 recently claimed the record for the fastest four-door road legal car around the Nordschleife. The results include a new front splitter, side sills and larger rear spoiler (all carbon fibre) which together increase downforce by a significant 30 per cent, and promise to improve both grip and high-speed stability. Adjustable Ohlins shocks and 371mm Brembo discs coupled with six-piston calipers also feature, as well cosmetic changes such as diamond-cut alloys and a stupidly-named “Bursting Blue” colour scheme.

Colour aside, its clear Polestar are not messing around here. If these upgrades are anything to go by, a full-blown, fully developed future model could cause AMG and BMW’s M Division to cast more than just customary glance over their shoulders...
