Mustang vs Charger: which of these stunning Ringbrothers builds would you choose?

Ringbrothers is bringing a custom Mustang convertible called UNCAGED and a Charger called TUSK to SEMA

Published: 01 Nov 2023

Here’s a dilemma for you. If you were only allowed to pick one of these Ringbrothers SEMA builds to drive for the rest of time, which would you go for? The first is a 1965 Ford Mustang convertible called ‘UNCAGED’, while the second is a 1969 Dodge Charger known as ‘TUSK’.

Need some more details? Let’s start with the Mustang. We’re told that over 4,000 hours of work went into this build, with the centre caps of the wheels the only remaining factory-spec component. Yeesh.

Underneath there’s a totally new Roadster Shop FAST TRACK chassis, while up top the bodywork is completely bespoke and is now an inch wider on each side. All of the Mustang’s panels have been smoothed and refined in some way too, and there are a number of one-off pieces like the rear light bezels, the side scoops and the Mustang emblems.

The paint is a BASF Glasurit ‘Burgundy Brave’ shade while all of the chrome has been treated with a ceramic coating. Even the iconic grille has been redesigned to feed more air into the 454bhp 5.0-litre Coyote V8 crate engine.

That engine is connected to a modern 10-speed automatic gearbox, and underneath there’s independent rear suspension, Penske Racing performance coilovers, Baer brakes and 18-inch wheels.

There’s also a completely new interior that was penned by Sean Smith Designs and installed by Upholstery Unlimited. It features a bespoke steering wheel, lots of leather and some very cool Dakota Digital dials.

Not sold on the whole auto, convertible Mustang vibe? The 1969 Dodge Charger ‘TUSK’ might be the car for you…

It gets its name from the huge 7.0-litre supercharged ‘Hellephant’ V8 that lives under a carbon fibre bonnet and sends 1,000bhp and 950lb ft of torque to the rear wheels through a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox. Yikes.

And there’s another way to one-up the Mustang, because over 5,000 hours of work went into this Charger. Ringbrothers tells us there’s a custom carbon fibre driveshaft too, and the engine is mounted 2.5 inches further back against a custom firewall for better weight distribution.

The front wheels have been brought forward by two inches to extend the wheelbase, while another Roadster Shop FAST TRACK chassis lives underneath along with Fox coilovers and Baer brakes.

The bodywork has been updated too with neater bumpers, one-off spoiler pieces, new door skins and a whole lot more. Then there’s ‘Black to the Future’ paint with brilliant gold accents and a custom leather interior with lots of exposed carbon fibre and a pistol grip shifter.

So come on then Internet. Which one are you having?
