This mega Nissan Titan was built for the Grand Canyon
Only in America would you teach kids about conservation with a 5.6-litre V8
Arizona's Grand Canyon is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. Okay, that’s fake news – it’s actually celebrating 100 years of being considered a National Park, but Nissan has decided that this requires a birthday present.
The gift in question is the huge custom pick-up and trailer combo you see above. It’s called the ‘Ultimate Parks Titan’ and has been handed to the Grand Canyon Conservancy and the National Park Foundation to assist with a youth programme that helps kids experience the great outdoors and learn about conservation.
All sounds very wholesome doesn’t it? The 5.6-litre V8 that puts out 385bhp and 395lb ft of torque is slightly less so – not that we’re complaining.
To make the Ultimate Parks special edition, Nissan first extended the Titan XD’s heavy-duty steel frame in order to fit the fully-loaded custom bed. That bed includes everything you could need for a spot of conservation work. There’s a long-range fuel tank, a welder, a generator and an air compressor. Oh, and not forgetting the pop-up tent of course.
As you’ll have noticed, Nissan has also attached a custom off-road support trailer that provides even more accommodation. Now that’s a car and caravan pairing we can get behind.
The Titan should be able to cope with the terrain out at the Grand Canyon too thanks to its four-wheel drive system, raised suspension and electronically locking diffs. There’s also hill descent control and hill start assist – although we wouldn’t suggest taking a run at the canyon itself.
