Look at this Aussie-tuned Ford Mustang
Bathurst '77 Special celebrates 40th anniversary of a one-two finish
There can’t be many Ford Mustangs left that haven’t been fitted with massive superchargers, flash wheels and painted in lurid colours. At least, ones that don’t belong to Hertz.
The Australians are even getting in on the action. In the absence of any proper Aussie Fords to fettle, tuner Tickford has taken to modifying Mustangs. It offers the usual gamut of suspension, engine upgrades, but this particular car is a bit different.
The Bathurst ’77 Special was created to commemorate “one of the greatest moments in Australian motorsport”, when Allan Moffat and Colin Bond drove a pair of Ford Falcon XCs to a one-two finish at the 1977 Bathurst 1000.
Tickford will build 77 of these Mustangs to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Moffat and Bond’s podiums. Each will be fitted with a supercharger that “significantly” increases power and torque, various interior enhancements and a plaque that bears Moffat’s signature. There’s also a “modern interpretation” of the Falcon’s red, blue, black and white racing livery and 20-inch, gold-painted wheels.
This is certianly among the more tastefully modified Mustangs we’ve seen – and there’s some history involved, which helps. You like, Internet?
