It’s the car we all demanded! An 800bhp… Honda CR-V?

Small SUV gets the upgrade we’ve all been waiting for: more than five times the power and a mahoosive wing

Published: 20 Feb 2023

And they say public pressure never amounts to anything. Pah! Honda has heard the masses and is set to give its US-spec CR-V compact crossover the upgrade we all craved: some 800bhp and a wing to make an F1 car blush. Finally.

Really, what took so long? Set to be revealed in full on 28 February, all we have to go on for now is the selection of teaser shots you see in the gallery above and the video trailer at the bottom of this page.

Called the Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer, the project is the work of Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Auto Development Centre (ADC), with designers roped in from North America Auto Design Division of American Honda. Let’s call them NAADDAH to save (a lot of) time.

Features include an aggressive aero package (well, it would need to be, wouldn’t it?), racing steering wheel, vents for additional cooling and - unless we’re very much mistaken - that engine doesn’t look like the stock 143bhp 2.0-litre you get here in the UK.

Oh, and about 20 seconds into the video below, if you listen very carefully you’ll hear that 800bhp has a rather profound effect on the noise levels.

Right, who wants the same done to the Jazz?
