Hold onto your hair: it’s a modified McLaren Elva with 906bhp
Wig-wearers look away now. Novitec has been fiddling with McLaren’s roofless speedster
You’d think that 804bhp, 590lb ft of torque and a 203mph top speed would be plenty for something with no roof, no windscreen and all the subtlety of a punch in the face. And yet, German tuner Novitec has decided that a standard McLaren Elva isn’t quite extreme enough.
As a result, this modified McLaren’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 makes 906bhp and a frankly terrifying 655lb ft of torque thanks to a new plug-and-play ECU module and a special gold-plated performance exhaust. Hope you didn’t pay too much for that fancy haircut.
The stats are thus – 0-62mph now takes just 2.7 seconds and the top speed is up to somewhere north of 205mph. We hope McLaren's fancy Active Air Management System (the pop-up tea tray ahead of the cockpit that claims to create a 'bubble of calm') can keep up.
Unusually for Novitec the bodywork of the Elva has been left well alone, with the only visual modification being the new forged wheels. They’re manufactured by American firm Vossen and are 20-inchers up front and 21-inches at the rear.
There’s also Novitec sport springs that drop the ride height by 20mm, and the German firm says it can ‘tailor the interior of the McLaren Elva to the owner’s wishes in every detail’. Although ‘interior’ should probably remain in inverted commas when talking about the Elva…
