Hennessey Venom GT news - 1,000bhp Bug’ killer breaks cover - 2010

Published: 30 Mar 2010

It's official - Britain and the US have joined forces to create a weapon of mass destruction: the Hennessey Venom GT supercar.

The Lotus Exige-based Veyron-slayer has finally been unveiled and comes spoiling for a supercar-shaped fight.

It packs a 6.2-litre V8 from a Corvette ZR1 which has been supercharged to produce enough power to melt your right foot - the ‘standard' Venom GT boasts 725bhp, but ask them nicely and you'll get the ‘window-licker' edition with 1,000bhp.

The chassis comes courtesy of a Lotus Exige and the whole thing weighs less than a Ford Fiesta, meaning its power-to-weight ratio should help it penetrate the outer reaches of our universe. And maybe even some corners.

The lightweight carbon fibre bodywork houses a programmable traction control unit, Brembo brakes and adjustable suspension to stop that monstrous power causing a mild dose of fiery death.

The whole thing will be strapped together at Silverstone and buyers offered an intense day of tuition at the track.

We've got a world-exclusive photo-shoot of this thing - for the full lowdown buy the April issue of TopGear magazine, out now.
