Does the Mercedes G63 really need three exhaust tips?

Lumma’s new mods add strange alloys and a triplet of side exhaust pipes

Published: 11 Dec 2019

Quick question for you: how many side-exit exhaust pipes is too many side-exit exhaust pipes? We ask because German tuner Lumma has revealed a raft of modifications for the Mercedes-AMG G63.

Of which one is – good guess! – a lot of side-exit exhaust pipes. Specifically, three on each side. You can see in the pictures here that it takes the G63’s usual twin-exit exhaust pipes, and adds 50 per cent. Three, as De La Soul once opined, is the magic number.

Or is it? You tell us. Also tell us what you make of the tuner’s new set of 23in wheels (also available in black) which apparently ‘guarantee a balanced load distribution'. They guarantee something else, but then this is a family website so we can’t say.

In any case, the G looks suitably… menacing. There’s lots of carbon fibre, LED headlights, and an interior that can be, um, Lumma-fied on request.

So, once more for the back: how many side-exit exhaust pipes is too many side-exit exhaust pipes? Or has Lumma not gone far enough?
