Check out this carbon-fibre 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang
Classic Recreations teams up with carbon wizards SpeedKore for the ultimate Mustang
Restomodded Shelby Mustangs are nothing new, that’s for sure, but this from Oklahoma-based ‘Stang builder Classic Recreations might just move the game on.
That’s because what you see above will eventually become the world’s first totally carbon-fibre-bodied 1967 (or ’68) GT500 – and it’ll spawn a run of built-to-order versions for the most cash-rich Mustang fans.
To build the aptly-titled GT500CR, Classic Recreations is teaming up with Wisconsin-based carbon manufacturer SpeedKore Performance Group – yep, they’re the folks responsible for this full-carbon Dodge Charger (oh, and this one).
If you fancy one, Classic Recreations will restore a donor steel tub from any ’67 or ’68 Mustang, before cloaking it in the carbon-fibre panels from SpeedKore and plugging in a V8.
What flavour you want that V8 to come in is up to you. Apparently, the options range from a 490bhp 5.0-litre Ford Performance unit, all the way up to a supercharged 7.0-litre V8 putting out 900bhp. Crikey.
As standard you’ll also get a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox, a stainless-steel MagnaFlow performance exhaust, power steering, coilover suspension, Wilwood brakes and American Racing forged wheels – so it should drive exactly like a modern-day muscle car.
Classic Recreations also says there’s an options list featuring a six-speed manual ‘box or even an automatic, but you definitely don’t want that. Oh, and you absolutely must not tick the box that paints over that delightful carbon-fibre weave. What a thing…
