Callaway C16 Speedster news - Beach beauty - 2008
We told you Pebble Beach was going to be good.
Not only will you get to see some of the rarest, most expensivest old cars on the planet, but there'll also be a chance to ogle this: the Callaway C16 Speedster.
Beautiful, eh? It's Callaway's latest - and prettiest - iteration of the Corvette C6-based range, and it'll be shown for the first time on the concept lawn at the Concours d'Elegance.
Powered by the a supercharged 6.2-litre all-alloy version of the Corvette's V8, the Speedster puts out a whopping 700bhp and 660lb ft of torque, which Callaway reckons is good for a 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds. Top speed is on the scary side of 210mph.
And all with no roof at all. The only protection from the hazards of the outside world - including bugs, precipitation and fallen powerlines - is a pair of wind deflectors and slightly extended headrests. May we recommend a helmet, sir?
Though much of the Speedster has been derived from the Corvette, Callaway has developed its own suspension system, which is fully customisable for road or track. The alloys are Callaway exclusive, too - carbon creations which weigh 40 per cent less than the lightest aluminium wheels around.
But enough about the technical spec. Just have a good look at the photos and try to forget that a Speedster will set you back $305,000 - that's nigh-on £150,000 of your English pounds. Is it unethical to pray for a collapse of the dollar?
