The Brabus 900 Superblack is a modified Merc GLS 63 capable of 205mph
Blacked-out SuperSUV gets bigger, modified V8 to allow 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds
Brabus has come over all ‘Brabus’ by blacking-out a Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 and turning it up way past 11. We’re talking at least 12. This is the Brabus 900 ‘Superblack’, and as you can see… it is very black.
Very powerful too. It’s taken AMG’s venerable 4.0-litre biturbo V8 and enlarged it to 4.4-litres, which of course necessitated bigger forged pistons and rods. There’s also a new custom crankshaft and a new set of blowers of Brabus’s own making turned up to 1.4 bar each.
Which in turn necessitated a modified fuel supply via three special high-pressure pumps, a new exhaust system, a new ECU and special lubrication to ensure the internals don’t lunch themselves.
Allied to Merc’s 4WD setup, this Superblack achieves 888bhp and 774lb ft of torque (restricted to protect the drivetrain). The 2.6-tonne leviathan is also capable of recording 0-62mph in just 3.6s and a top speed of 205mph. This is very much considered ‘enough’.
Bodywork upgrades offer token gestures towards aero efficiency – things like new air intakes, spoilers, diffusers and so on, not that you’ll be able to see them clearly – while the suspension is custom, and lower than a standard AMG’s setup. Naturally the interior has been treated to much customisation via leather and Alcantara too.
Each one of these Brabus ‘masterpieces’ is available for €370,550 a pop.
