The ARTA Mechanics Legavelo is a carbon-bodied NSX
Japanese race team ARTA will sell five of these GT-inspired bodykits
The latest generation Honda NSX may have first gone on-sale in 2016, but a lack of newness hasn’t stopped Autobacs Racing Team Aguri (ARTA) from unveiling a brand-new modified version at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. Owned Honda’s V6-engined hybrid supercar from new? Maybe now’s the time to give it an update.
It’ll cost you, though. Just five examples of the so-called ARTA Mechanics Legavelo will be built with each one costing 25.3m Japanese Yen. That’s roughly £163,000 and doesn’t include the cost of a donor NSX. Ouch.
Looks proper though, doesn’t it? There’s some real provenance behind the aero kit too, because ARTA runs an NSX-GT and an NSX GT3 in the Japanese Super GT series. For example, that new vent above the front wheels apparently helps to reduce drag by relieving some of the turbulence in the wheel well.
The only powertrain change is a new quad-exit exhaust, but ARTA is keen to stress that it won’t be too shouty. “Although it has a unique and aggressive appearance, the volume is suppressed to the same level as the genuine one,” reads its translated press release. A rather refreshing take for a modified supercar.
You’ll have to make do with the standard 573bhp and 476lb ft of torque to go with your new look, but a load of those new panels are now carbon fibre so weight has been reduced slightly, although ARTA won’t divulge any exact figures. Should be a pretty rapid thing, though.
What else do you get for your money? Well, the wheels are forged aluminium units that’ll be exclusive to the five Legavelos, whilst the interior gets much more carbon and Alcantara to separate it from the standard car.
