AC Schnitzer’s wild M8 Gran Coupe has 720bhp

The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe is not a slow car. In fact, with 625bhp and 553lb ft of torque from its twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8, it’s actually a really rather quick car. 

For some reason though, German tuner AC Schnitzer completely disagrees. It thinks that the M8 Comp in four-door form is in fact a slow car, and that it could do with a really rather hefty power boost to make it a faster car.

The result? Well, a new control unit means AC’s M8 GC (that’s a tongue twister) has 720bhp and 627lb ft. Crikey. There’s no word on what that does to the standard car’s low threes 0-62mph or its near 190mph top speed, but we reckon the former drops significantly and the latter rises towards the double-tonne. 

There’s more too. AC is calling this creation the ACS8 Sport and will fit 21-inch forged wheels, carbon fibre exhaust tips and a two-piece rear spoiler to differentiate it from the standard, slow M8 Competition. Oh, and it uses shortened springs to drop the ride height by between 25 and 30mm at the front and between 15 and 20mm at the rear.

What do we think, Internet? Was AC right to take on the M8?
