Maserati’s 710bhp Project24 now has a name: ‘MCXtrema’

Only 62 examples will be made of this track-only sizzler... and they're already sold out. Sorry

Maserati has finally decided on a name for the track-only iteration of the MC20 supercar. The turbocharged V6 is currently known as Project24. Now it’s going to be the ‘MCXtrema.

We don’t know much about the project, aside from the fact there were apparently 23 other ones before it. Maserati says it’s ‘the brand’s most powerful and extraordinary’ car. Anyway, we also know that the vehicle won’t be made for road use, it’ll weigh about 1,250kg and that only 62 examples will be produced. Unsurprisingly, they’re already sold out. Why 62? Your guess is as good as ours.

Maserati has also previously disclosed that each example will be entirely unique, as part of its customisation programme. In any case it looks pretty special, scrutinising the images the brand released last year.

More details are expected to drop on Friday 18 August when the ‘unleashing’ of the MCXtrema is promised. Yes, the same week as Monterey Car Week. Yes, at The Quail. Yes, we hope to see you there.
