Ten Things We Learned This Week

  1. Vaughn Gittin Jr's dog is really bloody adorable and loves rallying

Professional sideways enthusiast Vaughn Gittin Jr is on a grocery run. He makes the correct decision to take his little doggie along with him for the ride.

Cue a gratuitous drift-off as professional sideways enthusiast Vaughn and his impossibly adorable dog Brody rally around an off-road circuit in a Ford Fiesta ST. The look of enjoyment on the Boxer's jowly face is absolutely priceless.

He's even got his own little racing harness. Rallying dogs FTW.

  2. A Koenigsegg Agera R has apparently crashed at the Nurburgring

It appears Koenigsegg's Agera R-based testing at the fearsome Nürburgring has gone horribly wrong.

The Swedish supercar was reported to have crashed heavily during testing, with both driver and passenger ending up in hospital.

Our thoughts go out to those involved, and hope they're all OK and recovering. Along with the Agera R.

  3. Toyota has built a weird van with one-seat for Americans

Bad news for those employed as the long-suffering "van driver's mate". Toyota has released images of a new urban, crossover, utility, panel-van concept. And you're not invited.

You're looking at a van with a roll back roof, a tailgate that folds down to create a ramp, and a rail system to better customise the interior. An interior with just one seat up front. We're told it's as tough as a hand tool and is great for the city. It'll make its debut at the World Maker Faire in NYC next week.

    What say you, Americans?

  4. The Ford Focus is the world's best selling car

It may lag behind the Fiesta in the UK, but globally ‘Focus' is the world's best selling nameplate. It has topped the charts for the last two years, and it's on course to do the same in 2014.

There's a Focus churned out every 90 seconds, fact fans, and at that rate it will have overtaken the Model T - a previous sales record holder - in three years.

And you can read what the new Focus is like here.

  5. The Vauxhall Viva is back!

But instead of being a traditional three-box saloon, it is - as we told you earlier this year - now a cheap and practical five-door city car to undercut the Corsa and Adam.

It goes on sale next summer. And if you're not convinced Viva is a wise name choice, then just think of our friends in Europe - the Viva's Opel-badged equivalent will be called the Karl. Yes, really.

  6. It's time to don the tweed at Goodwood

It's the Goodwood Revival this weekend, and Chichester's other car show is quickly growing in stature. The dress code is as vintage as the cars that circumnavigate the circuit in a variety of brilliant races.

The highlight is typically Sunday's TT race - and definitely not the attire on display - where Ferrari GTOs and rare Aston Martins worth millions come closer to swapping paint codes than you ever dared imagine.

  7. Luca di Montezemolo has left the building

Industry news doesn't get much bigger, or more dramatic. After 23 years at the helm of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo has resigned.

His reign has seen Formula 1 dominance during the Schumacher era and the tech reinvention of Ferrari's range, with the wonderful 458, F12 and LaFerrari standing tall in the supercar galaxy. Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne takes his place and a brand-growing change of direction could follow. For better or worse, fascinating times lie ahead...

  8. The Range Rover is your favourite car to have sex in

Research conducted by ‘secret relationship' site Illicit Encounters has revealed that the large, luxurious Range Rover is the UK's favourite car to get jiggy in.

It tops a list of equally large, luxurious cars, including the Mercedes S-Class, Porsche Cayenne, BMW 5-Series and Audi A6. We know, shocking, right?

Though actually, what is shocking is that the Toyota Prius managed to sneak into the top ten. You're a strange lot.

  9. The self-driving Cadillac just got one step closer

Cadillac will offer advanced driver assist technology on some of its models from 2017. Things like lane following, braking and speed control and even cars that communicate to other cars to prevent accidents.

While full automation is a while off, it's certainly a step in that direction. Have we not warned you enough that these friendly automatons will bring about the demise of EVERYTHING WE KNOW AND LOVE? No? Click here then, and ready your finest tin-foil hat.

  10. The Mercedes AMG GT is here, and it wants to give the 911 a bloody nose

This week we witnessed the birth of the brand new Mercedes AMG GT. It's a small (compared to the SLS) supercar set to do battle with the 911 and Jaguar F-Type.

It's fast, it promises to be pointy, and looks mostly excellent. Especially when rendered in completely fictional but entirely brilliant Black Series attire.
