The 20 most expensive cars from $300m+ Pebble Beach sale

California’s mega auction posts staggering numbers on achingly desirable machinery. These are the priciest

  • Ferrari is clearly exempt from ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus’ oft-quoted maxim, ‘the only constant in life is change’. During last weekend’s Pebble Beach auctions, nothing changed. The most expensive car sold over the weekend was… a Ferrari 250.

So in the surreal microcosm of auction-land, nothing really changes. Yet another Ferrari 250 setting the world ablaze; this time, specifically, a Ferrari 250 LM, which sold for a whopping $17,600,000 through RM Sotheby’s monster three-day sale.

And it wasn’t the only 250 on offer. Another 250 GT ‘Tour de France’ went for $13.2. Over at Gooding & Co’s Pebble sale, a 250 GT Berlinetta Speciale changed hands for $16.5m, while a Cali Spider – just like Chris Evans’ old Spider – went for $16.8m.

RM Sotheby’s posted $172m over a three-day sale, while Gooding achieved in excess of $70m in just one day. That was Saturday. Sunday’s sale was similarly stratospheric, which means that over the weekend, some $300 million was exchanged for some of the most stunning, achingly desirable machinery on Planet Earth.

Of course, it wasn’t all Ferrari (but a lot of it, um, was, like the gorgeous F40 above). There were also notable entrants from Lamborghini, Jaguar, Porsche and McLaren with that F1, which all took record sums. Click on for our countdown of the top 20 most expensive cars sold over the weekend, and pick which ones you’d want in your ultimate fantasy garage.
