This is the new Porsche Panamera GTS
Attention: the techy executive shuttle you’ve wanted with an alcantara wheel is finally here
Porsche's model flurry continues, and today it’s the turn of the Panamera. This one is for you purists, as it’s the re-emergence of the GTS moniker.
Available in both normal saloon or more booty ‘Sport Turismo’ spec, these two new models mark the 17th and 18th variant of the two-tonne, tech-laden executive shuttle you can buy. Which is knocking on the door of 911 levels, but if there’s another way to skin a cat, Porsche will sure as hell do it. Because profit margins.
Like the GTS models of old, it's pretty much business as usual: bits and bobs from across the range and plenty of options all thrown in with the addition of an alcantara steering wheel and lots of red stitching to keep people who like driving happy.
Power comes courtesy of a detuned version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and feeds 454bhp and 457lb ft through an eight-speed PDK to slot handily under the Turbo’s performance. Capable of 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 181mph in the saloon and 180mph for the Sport Turismo, it’s got more than enough oomph to get you down the ‘bahn in a breeze.
Adaptive air suspension comes as standard but has been dropped by 10mm over standard cars – further improving an incredible stance. But as it’s the sportier model, the suspension and chassis have been tweaked and the brakes enlarged (390mm up front and 365mm at the rear) to keep those keen on scrubbing sidewalls happy. If they aren’t, there’s the possibility to add rear-wheel-steering to up agility further.
With the addition of some black accents front and back, the updated styling is typical GTS. Now however, there's a configurable head-up display – a first for the Panamera. Prices start at £105,963 for the saloon and £108,110 for the estate, with both going on sale later this year.
