Kia reveals 200bhp pro_cee’d GT

Published: 28 Jan 2013

Just one week after we brought you the first images of a shouty, fighty little Kia concept hatchback comes this: a shouty, fighty little Kia production hatchback . Meet the ‘GT'.

It is Kia's most powerful production car ever built, and that GT moniker will appear in two guises: the three-door and actually rather lovely pro_cee'd GT you see in the pictures above, and the regular, not-so-reasonable-anymore five-door cee'd GT.

Both will come with a turbocharged 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine producing around 200bhp and 195lb ft of torque, all marshalled through the front wheels via a six-speed manual box. Kia quotes a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds, which puts it on a par with a turbocharged 1.6-litre Astra GTC SRi.

It's been styled by Peter Schreyer - chief design officer and one of three Kia company presidents - and features LED daytime running lights, twin exhaust pipes, Recaro seats, 18in wheels and even red brake calipers. Handsome tyke, isn't it?

It'll get its world premiere at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show on 5 March - alongside that Kia urban hatchback concept we mentioned - while prices will be confirmed closer to its on sale date of summer 2013.

Though we're guessing this pro_cee'd GT won't be as Reasonably Priced as what the guests on our BRAND NEW SERIES OF TOP GEAR TELLY will be using. Oh, didn't you know, we've got a brand new series of TG!
