Kia aura news - Kia aura - 2008
Ooh, look at the shiny lights. A bit like Tony Blair's silhouette, no?
This moody, teasing little picture is our first glimpse at a soon-to-arrive 22 sports coupe concept from Kia. And, from the little we can see of it, it looks good. Even with the prime ministerial ears.
Designed by Peter Schreyer, the man behind the original Audi TT who is now heading up Kia's design unit, the coupe concept is due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
Details are sketchy at the moment, but our Kia source tells us that the Korean brand is looking to move away from budget cars into more exotic territory.
"We'd like to have a halo product," he said. "It's early days at the moment, but a coupe or roadster is a car we'd love to have in the line-up."
However, it could be three or four years before a Kia production coupe makes it onto the road. Much of the architecture could be shared with Hyundai - Kia's parent company - so the coupe could feature the 2.7-litre V6 from the Hyundai Coupe.
But we won't know much more about the concept until we see it in the metal at Frankfurt, where Schreyer promises that "Kia will surprise the entire automotive world". Hold on to your hats, kids.
