In the case of Jeep, it's from £15,995 for its new Patriot model that hits showrooms this summer.

Whistling the Stars and Stripes, the Patriot comes in two trims, so you can pick from the usual Sport and Limited specs.

There's also the choice of 2.4-litre petrol engine or VW-sourced 2.0-litre turbodiesel, and petrol buyers can also choose between manual or continuously variable transmissions.

All Patriots come with six airbags, ESP and part-time four-wheel drive that only sends power to the rear wheels when the car senses a loss of traction.
