The Nissan Pathfinder Concept is a handsome seven-seat SUV
… but it would appear it’s only for the Chinese market. Boo
Nissan unveiled a new concept at the Shanghai motor show earlier this week, and amazingly it has reminded us that large SUVs can actually be handsome things. A few German design teams might want to start taking notes.
The Pathfinder Concept previews a new seven-seat SUV, but it’s not related to the US-spec Pathfinder that only arrived in fifth-generation form in 2021. Instead, the car you see here (or a production version of it) will be solely for the Chinese market. Shame – we prefer the look of this to the current X-Trail.
Now, we don’t have any real details about the Pathfinder Concept, but we’d expect the production car to be some form of hybrid with four-wheel drive. Nissan says that it’s ‘blending Chinese modern aesthetics with quintessential Nissan-ness’, whatever that means.
Still, those Leaf-style wheels look excellent on a chunky SUV, and the Pathfinder’s face is strong but not over the top. Cough BMW XM cough. Inside there’s a 2-2-3 seating layout with all the screens you’d expect up front and some nice gold touches to liven things up a bit.
Should Nissan consider bringing this Pathfinder to our shores?
