Need something that'll cross continents with ease? Or just need something lux for the trip to the shops?

The DB12 is the most accomplished Aston Martin we’ve driven in years. It finally has the spread of talents and abilities to make it a viable alternative to the best rivals out there. It sits squarely in the middle ground between the Ferrari Roma and Porsche 911 Turbo on one side, and the Bentley Conti GT on the other. That may make its claim to be a super-tourer look a bit empty, but just because it’s not the sportiest car in its class doesn’t mean it’s not the best.

  2. Bentley Continental GT

This is a car that understands its role better than almost any other. In that regard, nothing has changed, it just now performs that role better than it ever has before. The V8 hybrid powertrain suits the Conti GT very well indeed and the driving experience has blossomed – yes, it’s faster, but it’s the smoothness of response and sheer capability here that are the stand out features.

  3. Porsche 911 Turbo

This is a car which is quicker, grippier and more capable than ever, but also more sumptuously involving than it’s perhaps been since the mid-Nineties. It’s the most interesting 911 Turbo in several generations. So much so, it was our favourite performance car of all back in 2020.

  4. Mercedes-AMG GT

It might seem like a subtle shift of positioning, to go from a relatively hardcore sports car to a Super GT – nothing more than the addition of practicality – but the new AMG GT comes across as a car more comfortable in its own skin. The old GT was always looking for a role, a purpose: now it has a clearer sense of its own identity.

  5. Maserati GranTurismo

    Maserati GranTurismo front

It’s got there ahead of rivals with an emissions-free sports car, which means it sets the tone and expectations for everyone else. But it’s also offering a blisteringly fast and engaging petrol option too. It’s a powerful position to be in. Everyone else is playing catch up. And this is going to take some catching.
