Video: 1,074bhp Audi S3 on track

How much is too much? Aside from the obvious blasphemy in that remark, it's probably too much when you can't keep the wheels in a straight line. Or indeed, any line.

Meet Tommy Schønberg. Here is a man who clearly laughs in the face of the Audi S3 and its puny, pitiful and disgraceful 260bhp and 258lb ft of torque. While its 0-62mph sprint of 5.6 seconds is more than adequate firepower for your average human, to Tommy, it's downright offensive.

He needs more. So he did more. Much more. Meet his 1,074bhp Audi ‘S3'. Got your attention yet?

Tommy decided on an approach of ‘all or nothing'. So out went the standard S3's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot petrol - along with all the innards, luxuries and everything else that qualifies it as an Audi S3 - and in went a very, very turbocharged 2.5-litre five-pot pushing out that frankly ludicrous horsepower. Oh, and 854 torques as well, just for good measure. Because sometimes, it's about how much of the wall you take with you when you go through it.

It's got quattro, but you'd never guess from some of the gratuitous oversteer Tommy displays in this video, taken when he popped down to a track in Norway to give it a bit of a workout. Tellingly, he only really hits the redline on the absolute straights. Because when a 1,074bhp bomb waits at the top of the rev range, you learn to work with the turbo, not against it.

Just FYI, there's another tuner on planet earth who only deals in thousands of horsepowers capable of disrupting the space/time continuum. He has made a 1,200bhp Cadillac CTS-V...
