Honda Civic Type R beats its own lap record at Spa
Time Attack Type R goes flat out around Spa to claim another fast lap
We introduced you to the ‘Time Attack’ Civic Type R a couple of months ago – a 2018 super edition designed to take on the circuits of the world and set some records in the process.
It’s already taken gold at the Nürburgring - a time of 7m 43.8sec, making it the fastest front-drive hatch - smashed the Magny-Cours GP circuit last month, and has now beaten its previous record at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium (set in 2016 in an older Type R). A steady 2m 53.7sec lap, some three seconds faster. Not bad for a four-seater with sat-nav.
The Type R Challenge 2018 edition is also planning further assaults at Silverstone, Estoril and Hungaroring throughout the year, with a host of famous racing faces taking to the wheel. FIA WEC LMP2 World Champion Bertrand Baguette led the Type R to victory at Spa, but our old favourite Jenson Button will also get a go at smashing lap records, plus fellow Brit and BTCC legend, Matt Neal.
Watch this space for what will inevitably be record break after record break… You can also check out life with our own Type R here. Or here, or here.
