The Ford Focus ST Diesel just got faster

Mountune isn't done with diesel yet. DIY performance upgrade adds 20bhp

Published: 07 Aug 2018

Diesel, for now at least, is still a thing. And if indeed it’s your thing, have we got news for you.

The Ford Focus ST Diesel – or STD as Ford insists you should under no circumstances call it – isn’t terrible, but it’s far from the best car to have ever worn an ST badge.

In an attempt to redress the balance, Ford-fettler Mountune has created the ‘m460D’ kit. It gives an extra 20bhp and 37lb ft, which translates to a substantial 0.7 second cut in the 0-62mph time (to a respectable 7.4 seconds).

The kit, which Mountune says makes the STD “smoother, quicker and generally even more fun to drive”, is made up of an OBDII flashing cable and dongle, which deliver clever Mountune code into the Focus’s brain. You also get a little Mountune badge.

Because the upgrade doesn’t need any real legwork under the bonnet, Mountune is quite happy for customers to install it themselves as home. The cost if £429, or £350 if you’re within spitting distance of the company’s Essex HQ and want them to do it for you (cheaper because you don't need the dongle and the cable).
