Brits, look away now: Toyota is prepping an even faster GR Corolla
Potential track special gets a bigger rear wing and extra vents, with more torque also confirmed
As if Toyota not selling the GR Corolla in the UK isn’t bad enough, it’s now rubbing salt into our wounds by announcing a more hardcore version that was apparently 'born on the track'. Yeah, annoying much.
The development vehicle pictured - which wears the same camo costume as the mid-engined GR Yaris concept and all of the recent Gazoo Racing prototypes - gains a bigger rear wing and improved cooling with additional inlets on the bonnet and vents on the front wheel arches.
Toyota’s also said this version will also get a ‘bump’ in torque and a unique tune. Considering the current car gets from 0-62mph in around five seconds, courtesy of a 300bhp turbocharged three-pot, it’ll be interesting to see how much extra punch is supplied.
The hot hatch received a facelift last summer too, which brought with it the option of an eight-speed automatic gearbox, plus a sportier suspension tune with new rebound springs and coilovers.
It’s already a quick car, the GR Corolla. Just how much quicker this potential track special will be remains to be seen. Give us a shout when it’s ready this Autumn yeah, Toyota?
