Skoda Vision D Concept news - Geneva 2011: Skoda VisionD - 2011

Published: 01 Mar 2011

Take a look at the white hatchback in this picture. What is it? A Skoda concept car actually. Would you have guessed?

Now TopGear likes its Skodas. Well, some of them anyway - the Yeti, that's a corker. The Superb, there's another one. Some of the Fabias. They're not just cheapish, they've got something you can't really get anywhere else.

But this new concept, called the VisionD, just looks a bit like a shortened and conceptified (not a real word, but you know what we mean) version of, say, an Audi A5 Sportback. Apparently, it's full of new-generation Skoda design language (and it sports Skoda’s new badge).

It's very nice, don't get us wrong. But is it distinct enough from the rest of the VW Group?

Anyway, we'll have to get used to this sort of family design because Skoda is preparing to shower us with new cars. In 2012 there's a Skoda version of the VW Up!, then a few months later a new Octavia, and then another hatch to wedge into the gap between the Octavia and the Fabia.

We did speak to Walter de Silva at the unveil, and pointed out to him that it looks very much like an Audi. His response? "Yes, but wait until you see what Audi have got to show." Sounds interesting...
